THE TRUST & ESTATE PLANNING DEPARTMENT
In the Trust and Estate Planning Department, the personal relationships
which we establish with our clients are the key to the success
of our practice. We counsel our clients concerning business
succession planning, the preservation and transmission of wealth,
sophisticated estate planning and estate and trust administration.
Our primary goal in estate planning is to determine and address
our client's long-term objectives. We meet to discuss family
relationships, conduct a detailed review of the client's assets
and offer proposals to achieve estate, gift and generation-skipping
tax savings. We work closely with the client to develop an
estate plan that combines tax savings with the attainment
of our client's personal goals.
The complexity of current tax laws requires that great care
be taken when creating an estate plan. Our trust and estate
attorneys draw upon the firm's substantial experience in drafting
wills, trusts, family limited partnerships, charitable gift
mechanisms, living wills and powers-of-attorney. It is important
to us that our clients understand their plan and we prepare
our documents so that they are as clear as possible.
The department is active in all phases of estate and trust
administration. Our attorneys work in concert with executors
and trustees to ensure that they properly fulfill their duties.
This assistance includes gathering and valuation of assets,
maintenance of books and records, preparing state and federal
tax returns, arranging for the distribution of income and
principal assets, preparing documents required by courts and
presenting post-mortem planning opportunities that can achieve
substantial current and future tax savings. Our goal is to
relieve our client of the substantial day to day burdens of
estate and trust administration, so he or she can focus on
the most significant issues. |
